We’re sure you’re all thinking it: Life is busy. You all have full-time jobs, dinner to cook, and a house to keep clean.

You have to divide your attention between your loved ones and having some time to yourself. That being said, it’s not hard to understand that the last thing on your mind is cleaning your window treatments—and we don’t blame you for feeling that way! So how can you keep your window treatments clean and your life easier?

It’s easy, and you can do it by following a few simple steps and check out our helpful tips!

Dusting

This is a fairly quick, easy task. When you regularly dust your coverings, you are able to keep them looking clean and new, and you prevent the build-up that occurs over time.

Vacuuming

Sometimes dusting simply doesn’t cut it. For a deeper cleaning that won’t take too much of your time, use your vacuum’s brush attachment and a vertical stroke (for most coverings) to remove more stubborn dust, dirt, and build-up. Be extra gentle and use horizontal strokes on Luminettes.

Compressed air or a hair dryer

Want to blow off the dust and get rid of little bugs that crawl in the cells? Use a non-heat setting to promptly remove the dirt and critters. Once it’s removed, simply use your vacuum to clean it up.

Warning about Spot cleaning

Sometimes dusting or vacuuming isn’t enough. You may be tempted to spot clean. However, this can damage fabric and seal the spot or stain if using the improper detergent or chemical. If you know the type of stain (i.e. wine, ink, coffee, etc.) your professional cleaner will be better prepared to use the proper chemical(s) to treat the spot or stain. We cannot guarantee all spots can be removed and it is always recommended to have the entire item cleaned to avoid leaving “clean spots”. It is best to have it cleaned as soon as possible to prevent the stains from setting.

Something to note:

Stained, wood blinds shouldn’t be cleaned with water because it can damage the finish. Instead, use lemon oil or wood preservative.

Sometimes your window coverings need a little more TLC

You may not have enough time to clean them. They are a big investment — in terms of both time and money— and it’s natural that there just aren’t enough hours in the day to take care of them.
